In this project, we study how early-life exposure to a parental job loss can lead to later life ADHD development. We find that in utero and early childhood exposure to a paternal job loss induced by a firm closure leads to a higher probability of ADHD related medication take-up later in life. However, we do not observe any effect when the child is exposed to maternal job loss. Further, our findings suggest that the effects run through exposure to higher distress in the household.
