Using a quantitative life cycle model, I study how a decrease in secondary school duration paired with a constant amount of instruction time affects leisure and education decisions of students. First simulation results indicate that the model is consistent with recent empirical evidence of the G8 Reform in Germany. It predicts higher shares of grade repetitions during high school as well as higher shares of gap year takers. However, the model still needs to improve in order to generate the observed changes in the shares of high school and university graduates.
