Yao Chen awarded with NWO Open Competition SSH XS grant
Research fellow Yao Chen (Erasmus University Rotterdam) has been awarded a NWO Open Competition SSH-XS grant.
Yao receives this grant, with a maximum budget of 50,000 euro, to enable her to work on her project 'Public Funds, Private Gains: The Influence of Government Spending on the Euro Area Regional Productivity.'
In her SSH-XS research project, Yao aims to explore how government spending influences productivity across various regions in the Euro Area. Using a detailed regional dataset, the research will develop a new measure of productivity that better accounts for resource utilisation. By employing econometric methods and a quantitative model, the project will uncover fresh insights into how government spending can enhance productivity. The goal is to identify the key factors that explain why some regions outperform others. Ultimately, the project’s findings will guide the creation of fiscal policies that promote balanced and sustained economic growth throughout Europe.
