Andrea Galeotti and Albert J. Menkveld elected as best TI alumni in the period 1999-2008
During the celebration of TI’s 25th anniversary, the prize for the best alumni in the period 1999-2008 has been awarded to Professor Andrea Galeotti (graduation in 2005) and Dr Albert J. Menkveld (graduation in 2002).
The jury consisted of the winners of the best alumnus award in 2003: Frank Kleibergen en Jacob Goeree.
About Andrea Galeotti the jury wrote:
“Andrea Galeotti is a young leader in the field of network economics. Since his PhD in 2005, Andrea has published twelve papers about networks in the very top journals including the American Economic Review and the Review of Economic Studies. This work is already heavily cited and has been awarded the Philip Leverhulme Trust Prize in 2011 and the Lionel McKenzie Prize in 2012.
Andrea has established an international reputation in a small amount of time. Five years after finishing his PhD he was promoted to Full Professor at the University of Essex. He has won an ERC starting grant of close to one million Euros, and is now Editor at The Economic Journal, and Associate Editor at the Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economic Design, Network Science, and the International Journal of Game Theory.”
About Albert J. Menkveld:
“Albert Menkveld is a rising star in finance. Bert acquired his PhD in 2002 and has since then published eight papers, three of which are in the Journal of Finance, the leading journal in finance. What is striking about these publications is that they are with a diverse set of international co-authors. This shows that Bert has established an international reputation that goes well beyond the Netherlands which is a prerequisite for obtaining the Tinbergen Award. As further testimonies to his outstanding work, Bert received the Pierson medal, a distinction for young Dutch economists, several awards for papers presented at conferences, and foremost NWO has granted him both a VENI and a VIDI grant to continue his line of research.”
The jury congratulates Andrea and Bert with the well-deserved honor of being the two recipients of the Tinbergen Institute Best Alumnus 1999-2008 Award.
