Raymond is an associate professor at the department of spatial economics of the VU University Amsterdam and a professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University in the United States. In 2014 he was awarded the European Investment Bank – European Prize in Regional Science, which is the highest research award of the European Regional Science Association for life-long contributions to regional science and related spatial studies.
The Regional Science Association International (RSAI), founded in 1954, is an international community of scholars in economics, geography, planning and engineering, interested in the spatial impacts of economic and social change at local, regional and global scales. The RSAI Fellows are distinguished scholars, selected in recognition of a proven and recognized research record in the field of Regional Science.
